A WEEKEND IN WHITSTABLE
July 24, 2017
Earlier this year myself, Mike and one of my best pals Kerry and her boyfriend Tom booked a weekend in beautiful Whitstable. Kent is not somewhere I have ever really explored before, I have no idea why as it is so close to London. Mike and I drove and Kerry and Tom took the train from Victoria, an hour and half later and we were sat on the beach with a glass of prosecco in hand!
We booked a gorgeous little
cottage just set back from the sea front on Air BnB. It was my first experience
using it and I am now completely hooked! The décor was gorgeous and even had a
wood burner in the front room which was so cosy in the evening.
Whitstable itself is a beautiful
little town famous for its oysters and fresh seafood, of which I am a big fan.
We were incredibly lucky with the weather considering it was March and in
the UK, the Old Neptune pub right on the beach became our go to spot for plenty
of booze and some delicious fish and chips.
Being by the seaside is my happy place and Whitstable is no
exception. Taking a walk along the coast you can go all the way to Herne Bay
(we didn’t make it that far, the lure of wine was too strong) but even the
gentle stroll we did was so relaxing. For food lovers there is more than just
seafood (although I would highly recommend eating as much of it as possible),
the high street is littered with independent restaurants, bars and coffee shops
to suit every pallet. Alongside that, with the abundance of quaint shops and
galleries, you could fill an afternoon just perusing the local wares.
The highlight of the weekend for us was sipping on some
delicious gin at The Twelve Taps while playing Cheat in the garden as the sun
slowly went down. The two nights we had there were the perfect antidote to
London life and I will definitely be returning for a long weekend in the near
future.
